Police Issue Alert To Residents After Burglary Attempt In Orangeburg

ORANGETOWN, N.Y. -- Orangetown police are alerting local residents to a burglary that occurred at a home on  Sherwood Lane Friday around 8 p.m., police said.

Police responded to a burglar alarm at the home, and found the rear French door windows had been smashed in, according to police.

Officers and detectives conducted an investigation; video retrieved from the scene showed two male suspects wearing hoodies and gloves being dropped off in front of the residence by an unknown vehicle, police said.

The suspects proceeded around to the back of the home and smashed in the glass  doors, according to police.

The suspects entered the residence, but apparently fled when an audible alarm went off, police said.

The homeowners were not present when the incident took place, according to police.

The Rockland County Sheriff BCI Unit assisted Orangetown police with the investigation.

Orangetown police are encouraging all homeowners to keep doors locked and lights on – preferably with timers – when out of their homes.

Anyone who sees suspicious activity or vehicles is asked to call the police.

Anyone who may have witnessed the burglary on Sherwood Lane is asked to call the Orangetown Detective Bureau at 845-359-2121.
